New Rig
« on: December 17, 2013, 11:00:13 am »
Throw me some suggestions since I'm way out of the loop these days.

I'm looking to join the i7 gang busteres club so that puts me replacing: mobo, ram, cpu. I'm going to switch these out and see how the 560ti does with it new support group.

I recently got off the water and purchased this cooler: http://www.amazon.com/gp/r.html?R=Y1S4BQDJSCJF&C=3TG14KBDH777U&H=6RHPMKVNO4ZCWTXW6BKJG02KVPKA&T=C&U=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fdp%2FB005O65JXI%2Fref%3Dpe_385040_30332190_pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1. I don't plan to over clock so I hope it's adequate.

I dont' know enough about the Intels but I thinking this guy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116940. Until you get to 6 core, there are all about the same price it seems.

Looks like I might have a better deal with a combo. Need some help finding a good one.

Are you sure you want to go with a 2011 socket cpu? I would go with a i5 and put that money in a new gpu. That 560ti is 2 generations old and soon to be 3.

I know I need a decent CPU upgrade. Would like to stay i7 if it will last a bit longer in terms of tech life, but if it's a waste...

I don't know what socket I should be aiming for.

I figured I would be buying a new GPU soon, but the rest is even older.

Right now I have to run BF4 in low to keep decent FPS. :(

I guess I'd like to dump $500 or less into the CPU/mobo/ram side and grab a $300 range card. Sounds like I should wait on the GPU if there are new gens coming out soon?

I don't plan to OC anything but the GPU, so don't need the super fancy. I guess you could buy memory to match the CPU you plan to OC, takes a bit of the pain out of locked multiplier OCing.

I would be checking out the 1150 socket. There's benchmarks out there having the I5 beat the I7 in most gaming situations. Again I don't know what you really going to do with this.

Just for gaming. Higher numbers aren't better than lower? What?!

I'll research the i5 and see what pops up.

I appreciate the help.

If I read correctly, seems like the 3570k is still the i5 of choice. I was hoping the FX-8350 would be a better performer. Seems like the 20 extra bucks on the lntel might be worth it. Although, if I can spend less on the CPU/mobo then put that into a better GPU.

All I know is that I'm buying Crucial...

Settled on:

3570K
8GB Crucial 1866
XFX 280X
840 Pro 256GB
cheap (on sale) mobo: Biostar TZ77A

Total $914.38, yikes! Just added that up.

Had 165$ in AMZ rewards/gift so not too bad.

I may go windows 8.1...
